I am Amanda, the Founder and Creatrix of the Daughters of Freyja.
I live in Glastonbury, UK. I am a dedicated Priestess of Freyja, Shamanka and a keeper of the tradition of the Völva, a collection of ancient norse practices including seiðr.
I am deeply rooted in animism, I came to the norse path after studying various shamanic practices over the last couple of decades, including soul retrieval, extraction medicine, psychopomp, shamanic mediumship, shamanic counseling, plant medicine rituals and ceremonies.
I am a sacred fire keeper and initiatrix for people wishing to delve into shamanism and plant medicines.
The Daughters of Freyja was born out of a calling I had to help women and men connect and learn about Freyja in all of her various aspects, as well as many other Goddesses within the Norse pantheon.
Our dream is to purchase some land to set up a Temple, community centre and training facility dedicated to Freyja and the Norse Goddesses.
We will also be creating a web of circles, ceremonialists, trainings and workshops across the UK for those who are new to this path or wish to deepen their connection with the Norse Goddesses and Gods.
I am also Marketing Director for Heart of the Wild, a registered charity established by a group of dedicated shamanic practitioners and teachers.
Our primary aim at this early stage is to acquire land and establish a centre in rural Scotland with a view to offering workshops and training courses in both contemporary and ancient shamanic practices.
This dedicated centre will also help to consolidate the work of the widely dispersed shamanic community and provide an open hearted healing space for all who would seek a nature based approach to health and wellbeing.
My name is Janet AKA Ranveig, the Founder and Academic researcher of the Daughters of Freyja and I have followed the Norse path for over 35 years.
I learned Seidr craft from an experienced practitioner, but my ‘speciality’ within the Norse context is the study of the mythology and Saga writings.
The path to Freyja came after a circuitous route from traditional Wicca and deep intuitive love of nature whilst following the Druid Way. Though informative, neither of these paths called to me in the way the Norse tradition did.
Following the Northern tradition has been part of my life work giving me focus and strength. Though able to connect to the Gods through divinatory arts like
Seidr and Embodiment my own forte is the written word.
The study of comparative mythology in respect of divinity has led me to undertake a deep and meaningful look at the way the feminine side of the
Norse tradition has suffered at the hands of patriarchal society. It is clear from reading of the Eddic texts that women were a balancing force in terms of an animistic religion.
I am currently working on a book, ‘reclaiming’ the Feminine side of Rune Lore.
As a precursor to this, I teach a series of lessons on Rune-Lore based solely from textual evidence in Eddic texts and Saga stories in which there is evidence of feminine roots.
